On September 15 and 16, at Fiera Milano Rho, the 66th edition of Filo opens — the international yarn and fabric fair tied to Biella’s textile district. The opening ceremony, Tuesday at 10:30 AM in Hall 24, carries a title that doubles as an agenda: “Weaving the future: balance for a stronger, more competitive textile and fashion supply chain”.
At the opening table sits Pier Francesco Corcione, Director General of Unione Industriale Biellese, alongside Fulvia Bacchi, CEO of Lineapelle, and Matteo Masini of ICE-Agenzia. Joining them are several protagonists of the district’s spinning mills: Stefano Aglietta of Italfil, President of the Spinning Section, Cesare Cigolini of Achille Pinto, Marco Bortolini of Di.Vè. The discussion, moderated by Laura Ricardi of Unione Industriale Biellese’s press office, is not about next season’s trends: it is about the structural resilience of the supply chain, from raw yarn to finished fabric.
The fair also brings back “Made in Filo,” the collection Filo produces in-house from materials supplied by exhibitors. This is the fourth edition of the initiative, hosted in a dedicated research and innovation area. This year’s theme is “Botanica”: simple yarns that give fabric a more natural hand, subtle weaves that echo the layout of a garden, more structured jacquards built on technical yarns. Three different ways of working the same raw material, placed side by side under one roof.
It is the same district, a few kilometers from Biella, where the fabric behind the micron-è T-shirt comes from — a supply chain that can still be traced step by step, from combed wool to woven fabric to finished garment.
Filo is not a recent fair: it has reached its 66th edition. It is an appointment that has repeated for decades, the moment when the district explains its own organization without the filter of seasonal marketing. For those who follow where the fabric they wear comes from, it remains one of the few occasions when the supply chain shows itself as it is, with the names and faces of the people who run it.
