The Return of the Brush

The return of the brush
We’ve delegated cleaning to the aggressive chemistry of washing machines. But often a garment isn’t dirty, it’s just dusty.
Wool is an extraordinary fiber, naturally self-cleaning and odor-resistant. Dust and surface particles can be removed with a simple clothes brush — a tool our grandparents used daily that we’ve completely forgotten. Regular brushing extends the life of the garment, maintains its appearance, and drastically reduces the need for washing, which is the primary cause of wear and fiber degradation.
To do
Get a good brush: Natural bristle (not synthetic). One for fine knits and one stiffer for coats and heavier fabrics.
Always brush downward: Follow the direction of the fabric. From top to bottom, from shoulder to hem. This removes particles without damaging fibers.
Make it a routine: Brush after each wear, before putting away. Two minutes that save hours of dry cleaning and months of garment life.
“The best care is the gentlest. A brush does more than a washing machine.”
