But data doesn’t lie. The hanger method is a simple, ruthless system for separating what you actually wear from what just takes up space. It requires no willpower — just a physical gesture and a bit of patience. After the test period, the hangers speak for themselves: what got turned was used, what didn’t is dead weight.
To do
Turn all hangers backward: On day one, flip every hanger in your closet so the hook faces outward.
Wear and flip: Each time you wear something and put it back, turn the hanger the normal way.
Review after 90 days: Every garment still on a backward hanger hasn’t been worn in 3 months. Time to donate, sell, or store it. No excuses.
