The Return of the Brush

Il ritorno della spazzola

We have delegated cleaning to the aggressive chemistry of washing machines. But often a garment is not dirty — it is merely dusty.

Wool is an extraordinary fibre, naturally self-cleaning and odour-resistant.

Dust and smog settle on the surface. A good brushing removes dirt mechanically before it penetrates the fibres, drastically extending the life of the garment and reducing the need for water or dry cleaning that stresses the fabric.

What to Do
Use natural bristles: Look for brushes made of horsehair or boar bristles. Synthetic fibres can be too harsh or create static electricity.
Firm strokes: Brush from top to bottom with vigour but without scratching, following the weave of the fabric.
Do it straight away: As soon as you take off your coat or jacket, brush away the city. Never put a garment back in the wardrobe that has been worn outside without this small act of reset.

“Caring for your belongings is an act of respect for those who made them.”
