Gesture #02 — The Fold That Prevents Creases

Gesture #02 — The Fold That Prevents Creases

Opening your suitcase or drawer to find shirts marked with deep lines is demoralising. We often blame the fabric or the lack of space, but the real culprit is the geometry of folding.

When we fold a garment by pressing along the edges, we create a fracture in the fibres. If we then stack more clothes on top, that fracture becomes permanent (until the next wash or ironing).

What to Do

  • Lay the garment on a flat surface and smooth it with your hands.
  • Fold the sleeves towards the back, keeping the shoulder line intact.
  • Fold the body into three sections (not in half), creating a soft package without pressing on the corners.
  • For suitcases: roll the ‘package’ onto itself. No sharp angles = no creases.

A well-folded garment does not just look better — it lasts longer. Merino wool, with its natural elasticity, is particularly grateful for this kind of care.
